Sisters' Islands

Singapore's premier marine park where vibrant coral reefs and diverse marine life make it a snorkeler's paradise.

Sisters' Islands comprise Big Sister's Island (39,000 square meters, Pulau Subar Laut) facing the open sea and Little Sister's Island (17,000 square meters, Pulau Subar Darat) facing the mainland. Only Big Sister's Island welcomes visitors as Singapore's premier Marine Park, while Little Sister's remains dedicated to research and conservation. This Marine Park showcases over 250 species of hard corals and provides sanctuary for rare marine life including seahorses, clams, and sponges, accessible via ferry transfer at St. John's Island.

The Story behind the Island

The islands' names originate from a legend about two devoted sisters, Minah and Linah, who lived with their uncle after becoming orphaned. When pirates demanded to marry Linah, the sisters were torn apart despite clinging desperately to each other. As the pirate boat departed during a fierce storm, Minah swam after her sister but drowned, prompting Linah to break free and join her sister in the sea. When the storm subsided, villagers discovered two islands had appeared where the sisters perished, and legend says storms still occur annually on the anniversary.
